Friday Feed: Hoisin BBQ Sauce

There are two things we love in our house when it comes to food: BBQ and Bobby Flay. I love sharing recipes with people, and we try at least a couple every week. This Asian inspired BBQ sauce is delicious topped on salmon or pork. Since there are just two of us, we make the whole recipe and save half of it for another night. It keeps well, frozen or in the fridge, and we just pop it in a sauce pan to warm. Enjoy!

Hoisin BBQ Sauce

By Bobby Flay (You can view a video of him preparing it with Salmon)

  • 2 tablespoons canola oil, plus more for brushing on salmon
  • 2 shallots, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sambal oelek
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Heat the oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the shallots and garlic and cook until soft. Stir in the hoisin, ketchup, honey, sambal oelek, sesame seeds, soy sauce and fish sauce and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, stir in the vinegar and season with salt and pepper, to taste.

** note, we omitted the Sambal Oelek, and it was still great
